On behalf of the group Independent Socialists in Wellingborough I would like to thank all those who voted for us/me, or supported us standing (but reluctantly or tactically voted for others) in the recent general election.
We ran an excellent campaign, within a very short period of time, and achieved our limited objectives of putting a positive vision for a future society before the electorate - in oppositon to the overwhelmingly depressing and negative picture painted by other parties and candidates.
Over the next period there will be massive cuts in public services that will seriously affect local communities and we, as a group, promise to resist them and help to organise opposition. We do not believe that the financial failures of the banking system and the so-called "crisis" in public finances, caused by the rich and the powerful, should be borne by ordinary people who played no part in creating them. We will continue to oppose racism and injustice and fight for a fair and equitable society that respects human rights, is environmentally sustainable, and free from war.
